Francisca da Costa is an efficacious advocate who enjoys a good rapport with both her clients and her tribunal. She strives to provides a friendly, efficient, and thorough response to those instructing.
Francisca specialises in criminal law and appears on behalf of both the prosecution and the defence. While she predominantly appears in the Crown Court, Francisca also works in the Magistrates' Court, the Court of Appeal, the Privy Council, Courts Martial, and specialist tribunals.
Francisca’s experience ranges from motoring to murder. She tackles each case with the same level of care and determination, and appreciates how important court proceedings are to the individuals involved.
During the course of her career, she has provided CPD accredited lectures in her field of expertise, worked on a CPS secondment, and taught A-level law.

Francisca da Costa has practiced Criminal Law from the start of her professional life and specialises in this area. Francisca has a strong grounding in defence work, but also features on the CPS Approved List of Advocates.
She prosecutes and defends a broad range of criminal offences including drug matters, theft, fraud, burglary, robbery, violence, murder, manslaughter, rape, sexual assault, kidnap, false imprisonment, and road traffic matters.
Francisca recently undertook a CPS secondment with the RASSO (Rape and serious sexual offences) team. As a result, she has specialist knowledge of the law in this area.

R v C
Francisca acted for the Appellant in an appeal against sentence. The Court of Appeal quashed a life sentence for rape and replaced it with 10 years determinate.

Francisca prosecuted a complex conspiracy to commit a number of burglaries.
R v N. & others
Francisca was Junior Counsel in a five handed kidnap, rape, and conspiracy to supply Class A drugs trial.
R v F
Francisca prosecuted a defendant charged with inflicting seven bites to the victim's legs. The defence of not guilty by reason of insanity was raised.
R v G. & others
Francisca was involved in a nine handed conspiracy to supply cocaine.
R v J. & N
Francisca was Junior Counsel in a £3 million ‘ponzi scheme’ conspiracy to defraud. The case involved over 30 Complainants.
R v L
Francisca defended a teenager charged with sexually assaulting two children aged 8 and 9. The case involved cross examination of four children under the age of 10.
R v W
Francisca was Junior Counsel in a murder trial. The defendant was acquitted of murder and sentenced for manslaughter.
S. v The Queen
Francisca was Junior Counsel for the Appellant in an appeal against conviction to the Privy Council. The Appellant had been convicted of murder in Jamaica and sentenced to 15 years hard labour.
