Expert Witnesses and the Criminal Justice System 2025

Following the success of last year’s event, 3PB Barristers’ Crime and Regulatory Crime team invites you to another engaging afternoon focused on expert witnesses and networking opportunities - designed specifically for all professionals in the criminal and regulatory law community.

The programme will start from 12.30pm with a networking lunch. Presentations will follow concluding with networking drinks which will run until approximately 7:30pm.
We are delighted to confirm the following distinguished speakers:
• Dr Gwen Adshead MBBS, FRCPsych, MA, MSt
Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist, Dr Adshead holds a Master’s degree in Medical Law and Ethics and an MSc in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Her research interests include attachment theory, personality disorders in parents, and medical child abuse. Her latest book for a general audience, The Devil You Know, co-authored with Eileen Horne, is published by Faber and her recent 2024 BBC Radio 4 Reith lecture series ‘Four Questions on Violence’ focused on the motivations and rehabilitation of violent offenders.
• The Honourary Professor Jo Millington BSc (Hons), MSc, PGCert, MCSFS, MIABPA
A highly experienced forensic scientist with over 25 years experience, Jo is an independent forensic science consultant and specialises in Bloodstain Pattern Analysis (BPA), crime scene evaluation, body fluid and DNA interpretation, historical case reviews, and animal forensics. She is a Trustee of and conducts pro-bono work as a member of the Advisory Panel of Inside Justice and is the Forensic Advisor on BBC’s prime time drama Silent Witness.
• Dr Varinder Panesar
A Consultant Forensic Psychologist with expertise in the psychological assessment and evaluation of individuals within the criminal justice system, specialising in the assessment of neurodiversity within the prison population. Dr Panesar is the lead clinician delivering psychological therapies provision at HMP Wandsworth and HMP Pentonville as well as HMYOI Feltham, embedding a trauma-informed approach to the rehabilitation and risk management of offenders.
