3PB recruits top arbitrators Planterose and Ribbands

26th April 2019

3PB Barristers, one of the UK's largest and oldest chambers, continue their construction & engineering team’s expansion with the recruitment of two more senior construction arbitrators with national and international reputations, Rowan Planterose and Nigel Ribbands.

“I am hugely delighted to have Rowan and Nigel joining 3PB,” said Peter Collie, Head of 3PB’s high-profile construction & engineering team which include its internationally-recognised specialist team of counsel who act as arbitrators, adjudicators or neutrals in construction disputes. "Both have exceptional reputations and will be great assets to our UK and international clients”.

Rowan Planterose is a senior construction arbitrator, adjudicator and expert or dispute board member. He has over 35 years’ experience of complex construction, energy and engineering disputes. He joins from law firm DAC Beachcroft where he had a busy UK and international arbitration practice, including Investment Treaty arbitrations.

Rowan is a popular choice as panel arbitrator/adjudicator for the likes of RICS, TeCSA, RIBA, ICC and LCIA.   He is also the co-author of the seminal textbook on the Arbitration Act 1996, whose sixth edition is expected to be published in 2021.

Fellow barrister, chartered arbitrator, adjudicator and chartered quantity surveyor, Nigel Ribbands also has over 35 years’ experience in the UK and international building and civil engineering industry. Nigel has a unique blend of academic qualification and experience in his specialist field. He has also conducted over 100 adjudication and arbitration references and is appointed to a number of nomination panels including RICS, CIArb, RIBA, CIC, CPA and CEDR Solve. Nigel is also named in many contracts such as T5 Heathrow. His high profile cases include Liverpool Echo Arena, Dubai Festival City, Media City in Salford, Crossrail and The British Museum in London.

The barristers join a prolific 3PB team – which added new Birmingham premises in November 2017 – headed by Peter Collie and includes the highest number of specialist FIDIC Adjudicators anywhere in the world. Unlike many barristers’ chambers, a significant proportion of the team are qualified in a construction profession and bring a real understanding of delivering construction and engineering projects.
