3PB’s Construction and Engineering team contribute to RICS professional standard
15th September 2026

3PB Barristers' (3 Paper Buildings) expert construction law barristers James Davison, David Parratt KC (Scot) and Peter Collie have contributed to the fifth edition of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) “Surveyors acting as expert witnesses” professional standard.
Head of Construction and Engineering James Davison authored the latest edition of the standard, while the updates to the standard were guided by an expert group of sixteen contributors, including David Parratt KC (Scot) and Peter Collie, who chaired the panel.
Effective from 30 November, the RICS expert witness standard is written to offer guidance on the professional standards surveyors must uphold while providing expert evidence in civil proceedings. The standard supports best practice and global consistency, with this new edition having been updated with key topics such as conditional fees, challenges involving modern technology, and places focus on integrity, impartiality and surveyors acting within an area of expertise.
