Robert Grey retires after 47 years on Western Circuit
23rd June 2026

One of 3PB's senior criminal barristers Robert Grey (pictured here) has decided to call time at the Bar. His retirement comes after a distinguished 47 year-career as a stalwart of the criminal bar on the Western Circuit and across the UK.
At last, his yacht "Astid" will be getting the attention that it deserves.
Specialising in very serious sex, drugs, fraud and proceeds of crime cases, Robert was a well-known prosecutor on the regional Circuit, whilst his defence practice took him all over the country. He appeared in many high profile criminal cases, some of which have gone on to become established Court of Appeal authorities. Outside the criminal courts, Robert was an authority on sale of goods and limitation actions, acting for the claimant at all levels in the seminal leading House of Lords decision of Stubbings v Webb [1993] AC 498.
Robert was much loved and appreciated at 3PB and by professional clients and lay clients alike. His last day in court will be on 25 June 2026.
All of us at 3PB want to congratulate Robert on such a lengthy and great career at the criminal bar. We will miss him dearly, his presence in chambers, his dedication, sense of humour and his warmth will long remain in all those who worked with Robert.
