Overview

Neil Boothroyd is completing a shortened six-month pupillage with 3PB, focusing on construction and engineering cases. He joined 3PB in October 2026 and is based at 3PB's London office in the Inner Temple.

Neil is already a CEDR-accredited mediator, qualified adjudicator, arbitrator, expert determiner, Dispute Board Member and expert witness. He has recently completed the Bar Professional Training Course and regularly receives appointments to act as an impartial dispute resolver. Neil currently receives appointments from a number of nominating bodies including the LCIA, TeCSA, RICS, CIArb, CIC, CEDR and UKAdjudicators.co.uk.

A Chartered Quantity Surveyor with over twenty years’ experience, Neil has worked at top-tier UK and international contractors in commercial leadership and management roles. Neil’s project experience includes a wide range of large frameworks, major projects and partnering projects for both blue chip private sector and public sector clients. He has set-up, managed and led major projects with values in excess of £250m. With a strong practical knowledge and appreciation of business requirements, Neil is aware how these are translated into project, financial and commercial management activities. This enables him to continuously improve the services being provided to his clients.

Neil is familiar with a range of standard form and bespoke contract arrangements, including FIDIC, JCT and NEC, and is able to advise on amendments, structure and coordination of contracts to enhance project delivery as well as appropriate approaches to managing conflicts as they arise. Neil has a broad experience of working with cost-reimbursable and open book contracting arrangements, setting up project accounting structures and cost management procedures. Neil is able to draw on his professional contracting experience to quickly understand the technical nature and context of a construction dispute and to focus on the relevant issues.

Each dispute resolution case which Neil undertakes requires a tailored application of his leadership and management skills to facilitate the most appropriate process and gain the engagement of the parties. Neil is adaptable and proficient in all roles as a dispute resolver and is keen to provide clarity at each stage.

Outside work, Neil spends most of his time with his family and supporting his children's various extra-curricular activities. Neil is also a Samaritan’s listening volunteer and rugby union referee.
