3PB Barristers (3 Paper Buildings) is pleased to announce that Barry McTaggartBarry McTaggartCall: 2025 has successfully completed his 12-month pupillage and become a member of the 270-barrister national chambers.

Barry’s practice will encompass personal injury, clinical negligence, and inquests.

Throughout his pupillage, Barry gained experience across a broad range of Personal Injury matters involving Road Traffic Collisions and Casualty (EL/PL) claims. He has regularly appeared in the County Court for both Claimants and Defendants, including in fast-track trials, and has frequently represented insurers in defending fraudulent claims. His practice has also included Credit Hire and claims under the Animals Act 1971.

His paper-based practice has included drafting Part 35 questions to medical experts in multi-track litigation. During his first six, Barry also assisted with the preparation of a Schedule of Loss in a severe brain injury claim, involving complex calculations of past and future loss of earnings, which subsequently settled for £2.6 million.

Barry has also gained experience in Clinical Negligence, including assisting with the drafting of Particulars of Claim relating to negligently performed cataract surgery and a failure to obtain informed consent.

In Inquests, Barry has represented families, including at a multi-day inquest involving multiple interested persons and a range of medical issues arising from a death in hospital.

Prior to pupillage, Barry worked as an investigator at the Financial Ombudsman Service, having earlier led a team of first responders and avalanche technicians in the Canadian Rockies at one of North America’s largest ski resorts.

Michelle Marnham, Head of 3PB’s Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence team, said: “We are phenomenally proud of Barry and delighted to welcome him to 3PB and the group. Obtaining tenancy in chambers requires hard work and exceptional ability. I have no doubt that Barry will thrive at the Bar and I look forward to seeing his career flourish.”

This follows the announcement in April that two other pupil barristers, Liam O’Shaughnessy and Eaindra Cho, became members of the Employment and Discrimination group after completing their 12-month pupillages.
