Overview
Barry McTaggart is a pupil barrister focusing on personal injury, clinical negligence and education. He commenced pupillage in October 2025 and is based in 3PB’s London office. Following the successful completion of his first six, Barry is now on his feet and available to take instructions in his own right, both to appear in court and on advisory matters.
Immediately prior to joining Chambers, Barry worked for the Financial Ombudsman Service for two years as an investigator, managing a large caseload investigating complaints related to regulated activities under the Consumer Credit Act 1974, focusing on breach of contract, misrepresentation, and irresponsible lending. Earlier, Barry worked in financial services as an Assistant Fund Manager, responsible for equity valuation for a €1bn multi-asset investment portfolio. These roles have equipped Barry with a strong commercial perspective, in-depth knowledge of the financial services sector, and highly developed analytical and presentation skills.
His transfer to the Bar was supported by Inner Temple scholarships for both the GDL and Bar Course, achieving distinctions in each.
Barry is a confident advocate and has won a number of mooting competitions including the Inner Temple Inter-Varsity Moot and the University of Law Public Law Moot. He also won 3rd Prize in the Tort Law Essay Award from 12KBW and Thompson Reuters.
Outside of law, his interests include running, learning about wine, and ski-mountaineering. Before coming to the Bar, Barry led a team of first responders and avalanche technicians in the Canadian Rockies at one of North America’s largest ski resorts.
