3PB’s sports and property law barrister, Jamie JohnstonJamie JohnstonCall: 2016, was the independent chair of the UK Athletics disciplinary panel that banned coach Andrew Young after a four-day hearing. Mr. Young was coach of Olympic silver medallist Laura Muir, who waived her right to anonymity to comment on the matter. The decision and her comments have been covered by many UK and international media including the BBC.

Jamie Johnston (pictured here) chaired the first instance panel in September 2024, but due to appeals on multiple grounds by Mr. Young, the matter was not made public until this week. The appeal panel upheld all the findings of the first instance panel, but reduced the length of ban.

Jamie has served on sports disciplinary panels since 2019 starting with Badminton England and Paddle UK and now for British Cycling and UK Athletics. Before coming to the Bar, Jamie was a professional sports coach working with numerous international athletes at junior and senior level. He played National League hockey and now competes internationally for British Triathlon in age group racing.
