Emily Hayward in amicus intervention submissions to Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court on constitutionality of the death penalty in St Kitts and Nevis

Emily Hayward, pupil barrister at 3PB, has contributed to Amicus Curiae submissions on the constitutionality of the death penalty in St Kitts and Nevis, working in a team led by Philip Rule KC of No. 5 Chambers.

The High Court of St Kitts & Nevis is determining the constitutionality of the death penalty and has granted permission for the intervention to be filed by the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA) and the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI). A hearing on the matter is currently scheduled for November.

Alongside Emily, Philip Rule KC was assisted by Alexander Heylin and Daniel Henderson (No. 5 Chambers) and Abdul Rashid Ismail (University of Oxford/ Malaysian Bar). The team were helped by Cath Kent and Baroness Helena Kennedy IBAHRI and Steven Thiru,  David Greene and Sophie Stanbrook at the CLA.

Emily joined 3PB from Slaughter and May’s Disputes and Investigations Team and now focuses on commercial and insolvency cases. Having successfully completed her pupillage, Emily has accepted tenancy with 3PB, starting on 1 October 2025.
