Overview
Kim Wilson is a barrister and a member of 3PB’s Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence and Inquests teams, with a particular specialism of police and military matters. He also accepts regulatory instructions on a private and Direct Access basis, and is one of the few members of the Bar authorised by the Bar Standards Board (BSB) to conduct litigation.
Kim joined 3PB in October 2023, after completing a common law pupillage at another large Birmingham chambers. This provided him with a varied foundation of civil, criminal, regulatory and professional discipline matters which has assisted his growth and specialisms here at 3PB.
The majority of Kim’s work is within the County Court, but he makes regular appearances in the criminal courts for primarily civil cases such as injunctions and proceeds of crime hearings (POCA). Kim’s early criminal practice provided regular Jury / Board hearings before the Crown Court and Court Martial. This created effective and adaptable advocacy that can be quickly tailored to the audience / hearing in question.
He appears for companies in a mixture of regulatory / criminal matters being prosecuted by agencies such as the Police and DVSA, successfully utilising his encyclopaedic knowledge of procedure and road traffic rules and regulations.
Prior to the Bar, Kim spent nearly two decades in the Armed Forces, joining the Army Foundation College aged 16. He went onto pass UK airborne forces selection and quickly become a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO). He served around the globe, including in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Balkans, where he undertook various tasks including mentoring local police, leading IED search teams and reconnaissance.
His unique background also includes extensive police knowledge and training, where he was involved in numerous high level operations including counter-terrorism and countering organised criminality such as international class-A drug supply.
Kim has gained a sub-speciality of personal injury work, acting in police and Military claims. He is taking the lead on Military claims with a substantial element of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). Both areas have seen ongoing repeat instructions with a substantial amount of Multi-Track matters including a civil jury trial heard over 8-days.
He is passionate about providing pro bono work when able, with clients often being UK Armed Forces veterans. He has been named on Lady Chief Justice Carr’s Pro Bono Recognition list in 2024 and 2025.
