Overview
Jack Hickling is a civil law barrister specialising in personal injury and property disputes. He is based in 3PB’s Birmingham office but works across all 3PB locations.
Jack completed a significantly reduced pupillage at the London offices of international law firm DWF LLP in June 2022 before practising as an employed Barrister. Jack’s practice included all manner of personal injury claims, predominantly acting for the Defendant.
Prior to undertaking pupillage, Jack worked as a County Court Advocate and Advocacy Manager for a number of years, during which he gained experience of consumer credit, contractual, housing, and commercial disputes. He was responsible for the supervision of Advocates to ensure a high level of service was being provided to clients via training and auditing. It was this experience which led to the reduction in the length of his pupillage.
Jack is frequently instructed to appear in both the County Court and High Court at all stages of proceedings and has a particularly busy trial practice of fast, intermediate, and multi-track claims.
Jack is a hardworking and passionate barrister that brings a wealth of experience from many different areas of practice, and prides himself on his ability to provide pragmatic advice to clients.
Outside of work, Jack has a particular interest in both football and Formula 1 and is a keen supporter of Manchester United.

He is well versed in bringing allegations of dishonesty, including staged and exaggerated accidents, fabricated injuries, and organised fraud, and has obtained several findings of fundamental dishonesty. Jack is particularly well versed in bringing challenges to medical causation, including in claims for non-tariff injuries arising out of road traffic accidents.
Jack brings a wealth of experience in all manner of personal injury claims including road traffic accidents, credit hire, occupational health, and highways claims. Recent examples of Jack’s successes include:
- Secured dismissal of a multi-track employer’s liability claim concerning a HGV driver falling off a lorry following cross-examination of the Claimant’s medical expert
- Obtained a finding a fundamental dishonesty and the set aside of QOCs following a claimant’s failure to disclose his pre-accident medical history
- Reduction of an £18,000 claim for credit his to a single day’s hire, including the dismissal of the associated claim for injury
- Finding of fundamental dishonesty and obtained a costs order following the claimant’s inconsistent reporting to medical experts regarding injuries sustained in the accident and medical history

He is regularly instructed in claims for possession, including forfeiture, having extensive experience of the same from his time as a County Court Advocate.
He also has experienced a disrepair matters, particularly when there is a personal injury component to the claims. More broadly, he has experience of commercial matters, including contractual, insolvency and construction matters and is willing to accept instructions in these areas, particularly when linked to his core areas of practice.
