Nate Lara successfully prosecutes man for offences involving serious sexual violence
13th August 2026

3PB’s criminal barrister Nate Lara has secured the conviction of JW after a 6-day trial in Winchester Crown Court, involving allegations of attempted rape and assault by penetration, aggravated by JW trespassing and violently assaulting the victim.
JW was convicted unanimously of all five counts on the Indictment after Nate's effective cross-examination, which focused the jury's attention on JW's inconsistencies between his evidence, his defence statement and his police interview.
This case marks another success for Nate, demonstrating his experience gained as a criminal law solicitor advocate in Australia and his ability to handle cases well beyond his call year.
JW is due to be sentenced in October 2026.
Nate was instructed by Ashleigh Doy of the CPS RASSO in the Wessex office.
