3PB Head of Chambers becomes Circuit Judge at Central Criminal Court

13th December 2018

3 Paper Building (3PB) Head of Chambers Nigel Lickley QC was sworn in as a Judge yesterday by the Lord Chief Justice Lord Burnett of Malden at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. HHJ Lickley QC has begun his new career after 34 years in Chambers from Pupil to Silk specialising in Crime and Regulatory Law and having been Leader of the Western Circuit from 2010 to 2013.

Simon Astill, 3PB’s Chief Executive, said: “I would like to thank Nigel for his enormous contribution to 3PB Barristers. His tenure as Head of Chambers has seen 3PB consolidate our status as a leading chambers across the UK, delivering growth while seeing two cuts in rent, opening and expanding our new Birmingham office, and become a multi-award winning set boasting 200 barristers.  If ever there was an opportunity to point to leaving an organisation in a better shape than you found it, HH Judge Lickley QC can claim that success here. We are all delighted for him and wish him well in this significant role and his future career on the bench.“

Commercial and professional negligence barrister Gavin Hamilton, who is 3PB’s Deputy Head of Chambers, will be acting Head of Chambers until a new HOC is appointed after elections among its 200-barristers.
