3PB counsel 200 other lawyers on the right redundancy procedures in the pandemic

18th September 2020

3PB Barristers specialist employment and discrimination barristers Lachlan WilsonLachlan WilsonCall: 1996 and Daniel BrownDaniel BrownCall: 2012 have just delivered the webinar, “Preparing for redundancies” to over 200 employment lawyers.

Recent figures showed 300,000 redundancies in the UK simply during June and July 2020. Next month -October – sees the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS)  goes down to 60% of wages with employers contributing 20% and finishes at the end of the month.  Many companies face continued drop off in business so may not be able to afford 20% plus NI and pension costs; nor the prospects of increased costs afterwards.

The basic requirements: warn, consult, apply fair selection criteria and follow procedure still remain. But these are not usual times. COVID-19 and the furlough scheme have added an extra layer of complexity about dealing with staff on furlough and subsequently terminating employment and consulting on and implementing large-scale redundancies.

To get a copy of their presentations or to instruct them, please contact their clerks Matthew Scanlan or Russell Porter on 020 7583 8055 or by email on [email protected] or [email protected].

3PB has a large number of specialist employment counsel with the experience and the discretion needed to advise organisations and their lawyers facing challenges to implementing or planning redundancy programmes.
