Louis Weston took a First in Philosophy from Bristol University (1989-1992) and the Miller Barstow Prize (1991). He was educated at Winchester and studied medicine at St Thomas’s Hospital (1987-1989) before deciding a Doctor’s life was not for him. He has developed a wide based, strong practice as an advocate and advisor with particular expertise and experience in Regulatory Law and Civil Litigation. In 2009 he was appointed a Recorder to the South Eastern Circuit.
His Regulatory Law practice includes prosecuting and defending before the British Horseracing Authority - the Jockey Club, prosecuting before the General Medical Council and the Hearing Aid Council, and in enforcing Recovery of Defence Costs cases on behalf of the Legal Services Commission.
He appears before Inquests and Employment Tribunals in Regulatory Crime matters including Health and Safety breaches, Environmental Protection cases and Trading Standards offences. He has defended Police Officers in Criminal Courts and before Disciplinary Hearings and defended proceedings before the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
His Civil Litigation practice is split between Commercial Litigation and Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence cases. He acts and advises in commercial disputes including horses, cars, aeroplanes and casinos before Courts and Mediators. His PI and Clinical Negligence work includes injuries, fatal accidents and severe injury.
His advocacy experience was developed as a criminal advocate, where he was a Grade 4 Prosecutor (Highest Category).
He has recently appeared in the Court of Appeal Civil Division, The Administrative Court, the High Court and the Court of Appeal Criminal Division, and has lectured on Costs, Disclosure, Partnership Disputes, MIB claims, and Loss Calculation.
Louis Weston is recognised as a Leading Junior at the London Bar in the field of sports law (in the Media, Entertainment and Sports section) and is particularly recognised for his specialisation in horseracing cases.
