Judy is a specialist family law practitioner. She conducts a wide range of cases involving children, covering both Public and Private Law applications and applications under the Family Law Act 1996. Judy's practice is predominantly based in the County Court but she also appears in the Family Proceedings Court and the High Court. She is based in Bournemouth and undertakes most of her work there but is happy to travel elsewhere on the Western Circuit.
Judy has appeared on behalf of parents, other family members, step-parents and the Official Solicitor in an extensive range of child related cases. Judy has a particular interest in and has dealt with cases involving:
- Implacably hostile parents and other intractable contact disputes
- Parents with psychiatric and psychological difficulties
- Parents with addictions to alcohol and/or drugs
- Parents who are Schedule 1 offenders
- Parents and children with learning difficulties and special needs
- Asylum seeker parents (with concurrent proceedings to confirm immigration status), and other cases involving sensitive religious and cultural issues
- Allegations of serious physical and emotional abuse of children
- Domestic violence in the context of contact, residence and PSO disputes and in relation to applications (including enforcement) under the Family Law Act 1996
- Shared residence orders
- Specific issue orders, in particular change of surname
- Removal from the jurisdiction
She is a member of the Family Law Bar Association and the Western Circuit.
