  • Advice provided on jurisdictional and procedural issues in cases with a foreign element, involving a wide range of jurisdictions
  • Interest in private international law issues with special reference to the laws of the Arab Gulf states, particularly the United Arab Emirates

Commercial/ Contractual disputes

  • Wide-ranging experience in actions arising out of a huge range of sale of goods contracts
  • Extensive experience of supply of services contracts, past examples include the provision of restoration services to high-value classic cars, the supply of HGV drivers to businesses, the management and servicing of vending machines, and the supply of gas to business premises
  • Advice on the drafting of contracts
  • Interpretation of commercial contracts, including building contracts, commercial leases, and hire purchase agreements.
  • Particular experience of the exceptions to the parole evidence rule
  • Particular experience of contractual disputes arising out of the sale of horses (in particular, the sale of competition horses which are not fit for their purpose). Extensive experience of dealing with equine veterinary reports on lameness and degenerative joint and foot conditions)

Relevant teaching experience

As well as being a full-time member of chambers, Hala was a Teaching Fellow at the School of Law, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. There she  taught contract law to undergraduates in 2008-2011, and also taught shipping law as part of her teaching of the Law of International Trade course to LLM students in 2008-2009.
