Instructions for Applicants

Please read these instructions carefully

  • The form referred to below, when delivered to us, will constitute your application for a pupillage at 3PB commencing in October 2013 for a period of 12 months.
  • Your application can be withdrawn at any time. If you decide to withdraw it please notify us by e-mail as soon as possible.
  • Every application received between 1st April and 31st August 2012 will be acknowledged by e-mail and will be considered by at least two members of Chambers.
  • Applications will close at midnight on 31st August 2012. Applications received after that time will not be considered.
  • Applications to multiple centres are not allowed and will result in your application being rejected.
  • We operate an Equality and Diversity program, as such we ask that you only send us the completed application form, do not send any covering letters or additional information as these will be discarded.
  • All applicants will be notified by e-mail during September 2012 whether or not they are to be called for interview.
  • We expect to receive applications from many more candidates than we shall be able to interview. We do not undertake, nor shall we be obliged, by accepting your application to offer you an interview or to give reasons for declining to do so.
  • Whilst we expect, at the conclusion of the interviewing process, to offer up to 5 pupillages commencing in October 2013 upon the terms set out on our web site, we do not undertake, nor shall we be obliged, to offer 5 pupillages (or any other number) whether commencing on the stated date or upon the stated terms or any other.
  • All offers of pupillage will be made as soon after the conclusion of the interviewing process as is practicable.
  • No offer of pupillage will be made for any period of pupillage of less than 12 months nor will any offer be made of a pupillage commencing at any time other than in October 2013. If you are seeking a pupillage for a period shorter than 12 months or commencing on a date other than in October 2013, please do not apply using this form. We do not usually offer pupillages other than for periods of 12 months commencing in October of each year, but if you have an enquiry you wish to pursue please e-mail us.
  • We realise that applying for pupillage can be a daunting task. Whilst we cannot advise applicants how best to express themselves in their application, we will do our best to explain the form in the event that any applicant is uncertain as to the meaning of it or if any part of it is thought to be unclear. In the first instance please send your query by email.

Structure of the Application

The application form is divided into 4 sections. There is also an Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form which we would be grateful if you complete, although this is voluntary. The purpose of this form is to monitor all application to Chambers. If you do provide us with information it will be treated as confidential and will only be used for Equal Opportunities purposes. It will not be taken into consideration for short listing or interviewing purposes.

Section 1 contains your personal and contact details. For obvious reasons it is vital that these are entered accurately. If for any reason the form is not adequate to record your details, please ensure that you notify us by e-mail of such additional information as we shall require to make the record of your application complete. We will notify you that we have received your e-mail.

Should any of your contact details change at any time you must inform us, by e-mail, immediately. We cannot be held responsible for a failure on our part to contact you, if you do not.

In the 'Title' box in Section 1 you will find the first in a series of drop-down entry options. There are similar options in the 'Intention to practise' and 'Where do you wish to be a pupil?' boxes. Each will open when you left-click on it with your mouse.

Section 2 contains details of your academic career. The form is intended to enable you to state your academic achievements in chronological order. In the event that there is insufficient space either to set out your examination results or to include full details of your record in further education, please notify us by E-mail giving us all relevant additional information.

Please give details of your first undergraduate degree under the heading 'University/Higher Education (1)'.

If you have a second undergraduate degree, please give details of that second degree under the heading 'University/Higher Education (2)'.

If you have a postgraduate degree please give details of that degree under the heading 'University/Higher Education (Post Graduate)'. Please do not use this space to record details of a CPE or Post Graduate Diploma in Law.

When entering details of your record in further education, please state your results for each degree course taken, subject by subject and year by year, as well as your result overall.

Section 3 requires you to answer a number of questions which will enable us to assess your suitability for pupillage in these Chambers. Where you are asked to confine your answer to a certain number of words, please do not exceed that number.

There is also an Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form, it will have no bearing on any part of your application. It will be held in confidence (along with your application to Chambers) by us so as to meet statutory obligations. You do not have to fill out the form if you do not wish to but we hope that you will do so, to allow us to monitor the effectiveness of our policies and procedures.
